3 Day Diet

weight scaleThe 3 Day Diet is one of most popular crash diets which is still popular even though it has been around since 1985. There isn’t any author or book associated with this diet and it’s unclear who created it. this is similar to the obscure origins of the GM Diet or the Israeli Army Diet. It seems that a diet can still become popular even if there is no one standing behind it.

Followers of this diet claim that you can lose 10 pounds in 3 days by following this strict eating plan. In addition, some people claim that this diet can cleanse your body from within and help reduce bad cholesterol. Whether or not this is true is unclear.

Exercise is not included in this plan. It’s strictly an eating program. However, with such a low-calorie intake it is probably best not to workout at all. You may find it too exhausting.

3 Day Diet Eating Plan

The 3 day diet has a specific eating plan from which you may not deviate in the slightest, either in food types or quantities. As you will see, you don’t get a lot of calories with this eating routine.

Here is the plan:

Day 1
BreakfastBlack coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

1/2 grapefruit or juice

1 piece toast with 1 tablespoon peanut butter

Lunch1/2 cup tuna

1 piece toast

Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

Dinner3 ounces any lean meat or chicken

1 cup green beans

1 cup carrots

1 apple

1 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 2
BreakfastBlack coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

1 egg

1/2 banana

1 piece toast

Lunch1 cup cottage cheese or tuna

8 regular saltine crackers

Dinner2 beef franks

1 cup broccoli or cabbage

1/2 cup carrots

1/2 banana

1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 3
BreakfastBlack coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

5 regular saltine crackers

1 ounce cheddar cheese

1 apple

LunchBlack coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

1 boiled egg

1 piece toast

Dinner1 cup tuna

1 cup carrots

1 cup cauliflower

1 cup melon

1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

- In addition to the food, you need to drink at least 4 glasses of water or other zero-calorie drink each and every day. I believe that this is too low. You need to drink 8 glasses of water each day at the very least. This is another example of why I think that this is a plan that you shouldn’t follow. The recommendations it gives make very little sense.

How Does the 3 Day Diet Work

You can follow this eating cycle indefinitely and continue to lose weight, according to people who follow this diet plan. I wouldn’t advise it, though. This kind of low calorie eating plan is too restrictive to be followed for long. It is simply not healthy.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • The 3 Day Diet is Easy to use
  • Affordable food choices

Cons:

  • Very low in calories
  • Hard to stick to
  • Restrictive
  • Will probably lead to long-term weight gain
  • May cause tiredness, dehydration, dizziness and so on

 

In Conclusion

Followers of this diet believe that somehow, this combination of food items helps to lose weight fast and achieve all sorts of additional health benefits.

However, as this diet provides roughly 1,000 calories each day, the weight loss probably comes from it being a low-calorie diet and nothing else. There is nothing smart about the 3 day diet that I can see.

This diet isn’t recommended. It has too few calories and makes no sense really. It may cause short-term weight loss, but it will mostly be water weight and you will probably gain it all back again soon.

The reason why it may lead to long term weight gain is that you may cause your metabolism to slow down when you go on such a restrictive diet. This means that it may get harder and harder to continue losing weight. Eventually, when your metabolism has slowed down even further, you may start to gain weight back.
