30 day shred cover You probably know Jillian Michaels as the no-nonsense fitness trainer from the Biggest Loser TV show. Now, the popular trainer has a new workout DVD on the market, the 30 Day Shred, a 30 day home workout plan designed to help you lose up to 20 pounds with a combination of aerobic and strength exercises.

The DVD includes 3 workouts. You do each of the workouts for 10 days for a total of 30 days. Each workout is harder than the one preceding it so you are always progressing in intensity.

If you’ve seen Jillian Michaels on TV, you know that she’s tough and likes to push her trainees hard. The 30 Day Shred is no exception to this rule. She will drive you to sweat so be ready for some effort.

The 3-2-1 Circuit 

Each of the workouts on the 30 Day Shred is made up of a warm up, workout session and a coll down session. The workout session, which is the main piece of the entire workout is made up of the 3-2-1 circuit which Jillian Michaels invented:

  1. 3 Minutes of strength training, using dumbbells and bodyweight exercises.
  2. 2 minutes of intensive cardio, doing jumps such as jumping jacks and mountain climbers.
  3. 1 minute of abs training.

You repeat this cycle several times over (each time with different exercises) until you reach the cooldown. All in all, each workout takes a little over 20 minutes. This isn’t that long but these are going to be an intensive 20 minutes, so be ready for that.

All you need to do that workouts are a pair of dumbbells. I also advise getting some sort of yoga or workout mat, although you can also train on a carpet. A pair of comfortable shoes are also a must for the cardio part of the workout.

How much can you Lose

The DVD is sold with the claim that you can lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days by doing these workout daily. I don’t know how common such a weight loss is, although I doubt that everyone gets it. In a recent article I discussed how long it takes to lose 20 pounds and said that although it is possible to do it in a month, that it may take longer.

Whether or not you can lose 20 pounds with the 30 Day Shred is not such an important question, in my opinion. I believe that you don’t need to focus on shedding this kind of weight in a month. Even if you only lose 10 pounds in 30 days, this is still excellent. As the reviews show, I am certain that you can lose weight with Jillians Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD.

In Conclusion

The 30 Day Shred is a highly recommended and affordable fitness DVD created by a true training expert. If you’re looking for a way to train at home and be highly motivated for a full month (and you can repeat the program, of course), then this is a good option for you.
