I’ve seen some crazy diets in my day, but this one takes the Blue Ribbon without any real competition. It’s so ridiculous that I was actually left speechless (or should I say breathless?) for a few moments when I first read about it.
The Air Diet, also known as L’Air Fooding, is a French created Fad Diet (if one can call it that) has one simple guideline: Eat Nothing At All!
Sweet, right?
You are allowed to eat a soup made of water and salt but that’s it. This is all you’ve got to go on. That’s worse than the old prison diet of bread and water. This seems like something people go to jail for, or at least are eligible for a visit by some strong men in white coats.
This isn’t the only connection to food this diet offers. You are allowed to
pretend to eat anything you like. Yes, you’ve read right, you can pretend to eat.
This is part of the diet, in fact, you actually need to go through this bizarre acting process in which you place food on your plate, heat it up, cut it with knife and fork, bring it close to your mouth, but never put it in or let it touch your lips.
It’s unclear why this is important, whether to fool your body to believe you’ve eaten or for some other reason, I don’t know. As you’re basically starving yourself you may indeed lose 10 lbs or more but this will likely last for only a very short time.
How was the Air Diet Created
This diet was made famous through an advertising campaign by Dolce & Gabbana in which various celebrities were shown bringing food toward their mouth but not eating it. I don’t know why a fashion company would resort to such stupid advertising tactics – and I hate to think what its effects may be on impressionable young girls – but it seems that someone who is probably known as a “marketing genius” thought that this would make a great controversial ad which will generate a lot of buzz.
And, it seemed to have worked, as the diet did get a lot of attention. I don’t know why people would by more D&G products after that, but I don’t really care either. All I know is that this diet is indeed crazy.
While you may be inclined to laugh about this diet plan but it may cause various psychological problems, especially in young women who may actually believe that such deprivation may be anything but insane.
Inedia
It seems that the whole concept of living without eating actually has a wider following that I first supposed. I was browsing online when I stumbled upon this wikipedia entry on Inedia which talks about how there are cultures in the world with myths about saints and other people who lived without eating anything at all.
It should be said that there is no scientific basis to the idea that you can live without food. It’s just pure nonsense.
Air Diet Pros and Cons
Pros:
- None.
Cons:
- Starvation diet.
- Will lead to fatigue, hunger, metabolism slowdown.
- May lead to various eating disorders.
- Simply cannot work.
Why Did I Write This Post
I’m sure you see how much I detest this diet plan. Stay well clear from it. When there are so many good diet plans to choose from that can really work, why go for what is obviously a gimmick.
The reason why I wrote this post is because I know that while most people would never try such an insane concept, some people would. If I can stop even one person from trying out this kind of foolish idea, then I’ve done my part.
I hope that you won’t try the Air Diet, not for any length of time. It’s simply stupid. While fasting can be a part of a total weight loss plan, like in the Eat Stop Eat diet, it is never portrayed as a complete solution to your weight problem. That is just nonsense.

Hi,
If I don’t write about it, someone might actually think that it works. I don’t so I just speak my mind. I don’t advertise it. People already know about it. Thanks for your feedback. Sign up for the free report
