One of the common ways in which weight loss products are sold is through the endorsement of celebrities. It’s much easier to get the attention of the public when a well known figure is used to promote a product. This is why celebrity diets are so popular.
It’s not uncommon to read an article which describes how one actress or another got her body in shape for a particular movie by using a specific diet plan or workout routine or how an actor got six pack abs for a special action packed film. Just the mention of a celebrity can send sales figures of a weight loss program through the roof.
The question is whether these celebrity diet plans are really any good or are they just using the popularity of this celebrity or another to boost their sales. This is the question I want to answer in this short article.
Celebrities Vs. Regular Folk
While some celebrities do have various talents and abilities that other people do not, there is no reason to assume that a diet program that has worked for them will work equally well for you or any other person. There is no special physical difference between celebrities and the general public.
That being said, there is often a massive difference in the lifestyle and available resources of celebrities and other people, like you an me.
Many celebrities don’t really have a regular day job. They have much more flexible schedules with more free time on their hands. This allows them to engage in more physical training, which is why you often read about how an actor worked out 5-6 times a week for two hours at a time to get ripped abs for a future role. This kind of time investment is something that most people will find near impossible to make.
In addition, celebrities have access to world class equipment and top trainers and nutritionists which may be paid for by their studios or record company. If you were to hire some of these experts yourself, you may have needed to say goodbye to a few hundreds dollars each month (if not thousands).
The fact is that celebrities have drastically different lives than regular Joes and Janes. Therefore, what works for them may not be something you can apply in your life. You need to make sure that if you want to follow a celebrity weight loss diet, that it is something that fits in with your lifestyle.
The regular folk test
Once you’ve established that the program that you want to follow is actually doable by you, it’s time to give it the regular folk test: does this diet bases its entire success on celebrity success stories or do regular people do well with it as well. For instance, Jason Alexander endorses the Jenny Craig Diet, which he used to lose weight, and he is not the only famous person who endorses this diet. However, there are many testimonials of regular people who have also used this diet and lost weight with it.
Make sure that the program you’re thinking about is not a fad but a proven weight loss plan that has worked for other people before you and not just for celebrities.
In addition, it’s unwise to be tempted by a diet which a certain celebrity used to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks or any other extremely fast weight loss. It is wiser to see the long term results of such a weight loss and not judge it by temporary results alone.
Celebrity Diet Secrets – Time to Get Real
You may find a headline similar to the one you see above in various magazines of entertainment shows. Talk about Hollywood celebrity weight loss secrets is always an eye-catcher and attention grabber. People always want to know something they don’t and as actors and actresses often look good, there is an assumption that they know something that other people don’t.
It’s time to get real. There are no “secrets” out there that you can’t find out or learn about yourself, either through research or by getting an inexpensive program. Do you really believe there are experts who only share their “secrets” with celebrities and not the rest of the population?
It doesn’t happen. The fact that many celebrities look gorgeous is that they are either genetically inclined to look good, they workout hard, and they eat right. As I mentioned earlier, they also have a lot of time and resources that you may not have. However, they don’t have any secret method, potion, or fat loss sauce.
There is no reason to believe that a diet plan that helps famous people to lose weight is better than one that has testimonials from unfamous people. In fact, the opposite may be true.
I am not saying that any program that is endorsed by a celebrity is false or doesn’t work. All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t get blinded by celebrity diets. Judge each method by its merits, not by what some star says about it.
