Interview With Dave Ruel – Nutrition Author For Fat Loss

dave ruel picture This is part of a recent interview I conducted with Dave Ruel, author of the Metabolic Cooking program for fat loss. The reason why only a part of the interview is presented here is that much of the interview revolved around nutrition for bodybuilders, something which isn’t related to the topic of WorldofDiets, which is weight loss.

You see, Dave Ruel’s former product, Anabolic Cooking, is a successful nutrition plan for bodybuilders. I wanted to give you the information regarding fat loss.

A little bio about Dave: he is a competitive bodybuilder from Canada. He is 28 years old and he is known for his knowledge of food, nutrition, and cooking.

Because he is a bodybuilder, he knows about nutrition for massive muscle building and for fat loss. Metabolic Cooking is mostly about losing fat and this is the part of the interview I have for you here. Enjoy.

John:    So, Dave, how are you these days?

Dave:    Hey, John. How are you doing?

John:    I’m doing great. How are you? How are things in Canada?

Dave:    Things are going well. Things are a little bit chilly right now. We are right in the middle of winter, but things are going really well.  I’m very busy right now actually with a couple of new projects coming up, and creating, actually new recipes for future projects. So that keeps me busy.

John:    Glad to hear it. Let’s talk a little bit about Metabolic Cooking.  It’s a new product that you have coming out within the next few weeks (the beginning of April 2011) and this is something that’s a bit different from Anabolic Cooking, right? It’s for a different sort of people. What is Metabolic Cooking all about?

Dave:     Yes, you said it.  It’s a different product. I get that question a lot actually.  People are like, “What is the difference between Anabolic and Metabolic Cooking?”  Well, I created Anabolic Cooking for people involved in bodybuilding and fitness.  So people who are already familiar with bodybuilding and fitness nutrition, but however, need better recipe in order to be successful with it.

Metabolic Cooking on the other hand, is focused on people who need to lose weight and lose body fat because that was one of the main concern or questions I had is, a lot of people like, “You know, I’m not a bodybuilder, I’m not a fitness freak, I’m doing some exercises maybe two or three times a week. I’m the basketball player, I’m the hockey player and so on, and I need to lose that belly fat.  I need to lose that back fat that I’ve got.”

I was like, well, Anabolic Cooking is very targeted to very active people that are involved in bodybuilding and fitness.  I really metabolic cooking cover felt that there was a need for that type of cookbook, so I just went back to the drawing board and started designing recipes that were really for these people; for people who their only goal was to lose weight or lose body fat, and I came up with some killer recipes.

Actually, I worked with my girlfriend, Karine (this refers to Karine Losier), on that new cookbook. She was my kitchen assistant for the whole conception of these recipes.  We really targeted on making it very, very simple to understand.  An easy solution that people can use and implement even though they are not heavily active, or whatever level they are basically.

I’ve tested this approach because it goes along with a nutrition approach or a diet approach. This I can say is a diet because it’s mostly for fat loss.  I don’t really like to use the word ‘diet’ as a lifestyle thing, but when it comes to fat loss, and mostly fat loss, you can say, you start with a diet.

There’s an old dieting approach coming with it. I really wanted to make it very, very simple.  It’s a style of plug-and-play type of system. So you can take pretty much one recipe and put it pretty much anywhere you want, either for your breakfast, your dinner, your lunch and so on.  It’s hard to explain it over the phone like that, but it’s a very easy and simple concept.

The key as well with Metabolic Cooking was to design the recipes to optimize fat burning basically.  So we are cooking a lot more with spices, so a lot more spices are involved, different food, different portions as well; smaller portions that I used for Anabolic and Metabolic Cooking.  So very good for people who are really looking to lose weight and lose body fat and are not very interested maybe in bodybuilding and fitness.  That’s absolutely fine because nobody can be exactly like me or like what I do.  So we went and listened to these people and came out with something they needed.

John:    Great.  Are there any special ingredients in Metabolic Cooking, or easy to find things that you can buy in the supermarket, in the neighborhood?

Dave:    Yeah. I took the same approach that I took with Anabolic Cooking regarding the ingredients.  They’re all very easy to find ingredients. You can find all of these ingredients in your local grocery stores, no problem at all.

Also, I’m going to add a list of places online where you can order some kind of foods, different foods or different spices.  For example, nut butter.  I know that some nut butter is not available in certain countries.  Well, this website ships worldwide so you can order from there and still get those missing ingredients if you need them, but I would say that 99 percent of the ingredients, you can find them in your local grocery store, no problem.

We’re looking at very good, healthy whole foods.  You’re going to find chicken again, of course, many red meat recipes, and some fish and seafood recipes as well.  You’re going to have a whole selection of breakfast including eggs, omelettes and so on.  It’s going to be a balanced cookbook, just like the Anabolic Cookbook is. It’s going to be a very, very well balanced cookbook.

That’s one of the main things as well is that you don’t want your diet to be boring. So this cookbook is going to serve the same purpose that your diet is definitely not going to be boring, in addition to the system implementing with it.  It’s pretty much guaranteed success to anybody who gets on the Metabolic Cooking program.

John:    And it works for men and women both or is there a different plan for men and a different one for women?

Dave:    No, we’re using the same approach for men and women. Of course, we’ve got different calculations regarding the daily calories for men and women, but it’s the same approach. There’s no need to over complicate things.  Men and women pretty much have the same needs regarding food quality and good nutrients sources.

The approach is the same for men and women, just the calories, of course, is going to be a little bit more important in the case of men.  Women, of course, need a little bit less calories usually than men, but it’s going to be the same overall approach.  It’s a universal approach we’re building pretty much.

John:       And this is sort of an eating program that you can basically fit in with any fitness plan or fitness routine that you’re currently on. If there’s a man that’s maybe doing a bit more weight lifting and another one that’s doing more cardio oriented fitness plan, they can both use Metabolic Cooking and use the recipes?

Dave:        Absolutely.  Metabolic Cooking, actually, I take into consideration your activity level and the number of calories I’m prescribing everyday. S o it’s a big thing.  You can be working out once a week or you can be working out seven times a week and you can still use that approach, that eating plan, no problem.

John:       Great.  Can you give me an example of a metabolism boosting food that you use in the recipes?  Let’s say, one of the spices that you say that you use in the recipes?

Dave:        Absolutely.  There’s many actually. That’s one of the big mistakes is a lot of people don’t add spices to their foods at all.  They underestimate the powers of these little spices and not a whole lot can actually make some quite a difference.  That can make up to an additional one pound of fat loss a week.

John:    Wow!

Dave:        I’m going to name you like the common spices I’m using in Metabolic Cooking.  Those are still spices I’m using for pretty much all my recipes in Anabolic and Metabolic Cooking, but you’re going to see them a little bit more often in Metabolic Cooking.  You’re looking, for example, like black pepper; turmeric, which is a very good Asian spice.  Cinnamon, of course, which is one of the most common spices out there, and garlic, as well.  Ginger, which is a great, great spice, actually it’s a great spice.  I use ginger a lot with veggies.  It makes good combination with green veggies.

Cayenne pepper and chilli pepper, very hot spices.  You can increase your metabolic rate by a lot, using these spices.  Some studies have shown actually that cayenne pepper can raise your metabolic rate by about 25 percent at some point of time, which is crazy.

So it’s just a matter of using them on a constant basis and you’re going to see the results out of it on the long run, definitely.

John:       Great. So when is Metabolic Cooking scheduled to be released?

Dave:        Metabolic Cooking, I got a whole pre-launch event coming up two weeks before the official launch of Metabolic Cooking.  If you want to know more, you can look at metaboliccooking.com on March 22nd, so the pre-launch officially starts on March 22nd (2011). I’m going to be sharing some tips. I’m going to have a free report to download.

Then I’m going to have multiple articles, videos leading up to the official launch that is going to be on April 5th of 2011, of course.  It’s actually coming pretty fast. If you look right now on my blog, themusclecook.com, I‘ve got a countdown actually leading to the launch.  We have actually 39 days before the official launch.

John:       Thirty-nine days.  Okay, so it’s 39 days before people could start burning fat with easy to do recipes through Metabolic Cooking.  I’m looking forward to that and I’m on the advanced list for an early copy and I’m looking forward to that after reading Anabolic Cooking.

I think it would be great.  I think it will be something that a lot of people can use and I want to thank you for taking the time, Dave to do this interview.  I hope that your recipes will be used by as many people as possible to make their lives better.

Dave:        I hope so, too. Well, thanks to you. Thanks for everything you do as well. You’re very helpful with all the articles, and all the tips, the reviews you do.  I know you’re very meticulous of reviewing all the programs and just bringing the good info out there. We appreciate that as well. So thanks a lot, John, for that.

John:       Okay. Thank you. I try.  Okay, so April, it’s coming and I hope to speak with you again soon, Dave.  Have a great day.

Dave:        You too, Jonathan. Take care.
