Diet and Exercise May Not Help All Diabetes Patients

Diet and exercise have long been considered an excellent treatment course for patients of type 2 Diabetes. However, a new research shows that this may not be the case for obese patients who first showed signs of the disease when they were young.

A study conducted at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and Trinity College in Dublin shows that obese subjects between 18 and 25 years of age are less effected by physical exercise and may have an increased insulin resistance due to carrying mitochondrial and genes that work in an abnormal way.

Type 2 Diabetes has been, up until recently, a disease which mostly struck people over the age of 50. However, in recent years there have been more and more cases of younger and younger people developing the disease.

The study shows that there may be more than one strain of Type 2 Diabetes and that new treatments may need to be developed to treat these newly discovered strains.

Past research showed that diet and continuous exercise increased mitochondrial proteins which help deal with insulin sensitivity. However, the study followed young obese subject with Type 2 Diabetes and found that they did not develop as much mitochondrial proteins as could be expected after a workout.

This means that while diet and fitness program (such as Fat Burning Furnace, for example) have many healthy benefits, they may not be as effective in the treatment of diabetes in all cases as previously thought.

Hopefully, more studies and research will find how to better treat young diabetics in a better and more comprehensive way.
