Don’t Let Magazine Covers Get You Down

woman in a white bikiniOne of the things which keeps people from striving to lose weight and improve their body is a comparison they make between themselves and some model or actress they see on the cover of magazines or on some entertainment show (guys experience this too, but not to the same degree as women do).

The thought “Well, I can never look like that in a million years” or something similar, is enough to make the idea of going to the gym or changing your diet an exercise in futility.

Well, I’m here to tell you that mustn’t let magazine cover models get you down. There’s no reason why anyone would make you feel bad about yourself.

The Tricks of Modern Technology

When you look at a model in a magazine, it can be hard to go beyond the actual image that is before you. However, realize that the picture you see may have gone through some heavy modifications.

With today’s image editing software programs it’s easy for photographers to remove any imperfections in the models they work with. I’ve heard of models having surgical scars brushed out, their skin turned smoother and brighter, their breasts enhanced, and their thighs and waist toned. All this with nothing more than a few clicks of a mouse. It’s better than make up. The image you get to see may be quite different from the way this model really looks. They aren’t as perfect as they may seem.

Don’t Believe That It’s Easy

In a recent post I wrote about how often movie stars talk about their diet and how they make it seem like they can eat whatever they want and still look thin and fit. Some people are blessed with a high metabolism. However, I think that most of these claims are an exaggeration at best.

Most people need to work very hard to look as thin and toned as these models do. It doesn’t come easy. They need to maintain a rigorous fitness routine and watch their diet very carefully. Many of them have personal trainers and dieticians that work with them closely.

So What?

The basic truth of life is that there will always be someone better, smarter, and prettier. In a world with so many people, it’s very hard to be number one in anything. So What? The good news is that you don’t need to.

The way to look at the world is that you’ve been given a chance a wonderful life. It’s up to you to make it the best you can. You can realize your full potential or grow depressed because some people seem like they’ve been given a better starting point.

I want you to change your mindset and realize that you’re in competition with no one but yourself. You can’t beat everyone. Your goal should be to have the best life you can have, the best body and the best health you can have.

When you succeed in looking at life this way, you will find it much easier to stick to any workout plan or succeed in anything else that you want to achieve in life. Remember, your goal is to be the best you can be and not try to compete with some image which may not even be very realistic.
