As part of my work on this site I read a lot of material about fitness and nutrition and fat loss. I also go through plenty of fat loss programs, some great and some not so great. It seems that many of these plans often provide accurate, but unessential information that would do most people very little good.
You see, while you can always strive to burn just a little bit extra fat by perfecting your diet routine, learning about how hormones work, doing exercises in an exact sequence, and so on, these things will not give you most of your results.
Mostly, you get a lot of science thrown at you. Often it seems that the writers are eager to put more scientific terms into their work — by the bucketful if possible — in order to make their programs seem more complex, in-depth, and special.
This can be rather overwhelming as you may get the sense that you need to know a lot of science and to practice a lot of different elements, methods, and techniques to really lose weight.
Overblown Complexity
I’m here to tell you that this is not the case. You don’t need to know very much to lose weight and you don’t need complex methods to get most of the results you seek. I say most because there are useful techniques for those who aspire to near-perfection, but for those who simply wish to lose a few pounds, all this complexity is unnecessary.
Fat loss is a matter of science. It’s a matter of nutrition, exercise science, biology and chemistry. However, it’s not rocket science like so many programs seem to hint. It is actually quite simple: burn more calories than you consume and you will lose weight. Simple, right?
You don’t need to think about hormones and timing your workouts to perfection or eating just the right amount of calories at specific times of the day. You just need to obey this one simple rule: burn more and consume less.
All this can be done without complex methods, without learning about acronyms for wildly complicated scientific terms, without learning about all the various tricks to boost your metabolism, and so on. All these things are useful and, if you want a really great looking body they may be necessary, but for most of us, the answer is much simpler.
The problem is that complexity often shadows the real solution, the simple things that you need in order to really lose weight. You may feel overwhelmed by all that seems to be required of you that you will end up doing very little at all. It’s like reading the first page of a book and feeling like you don’t understand a word and then thinking about the horror of having to read it all. It’s enough to make you give up entirely or keep on waiting for something else to happen.
Don’t let this happen to you. It is counterproductive. All you need to do in order to lose weight is to simply eat a little less and exercise a lot more. Then, you need to watch your weight and see that it decreases. If it does, you’re on the right track. Don’t let anyone overwhelm you or make things seem difficult. Fat loss is not rocket science. Let’s keep it simple.
