The first hurdle you need to overcome when trying to lose weight is yourself.
This is quite a big hurdle and it has a lot to do with how honest you are with yourself. You see, a lot of people become quite good at telling lies… to themself. These lies undermine the mindset you need in order to successfully change your life and they make it close to impossible that you will ever lose weight.
It’s time to put an end to the fat loss lies you tell yourself. Let’s see what those common lies are. It’s time to stop hindering yourself.
Lie #1 – I can’t Lose Weight
Telling yourself that you can’t lose weight is really a deal breaker. How are you supposed to proceed from this point? You’ve rejected that possibility of weight loss. You’ve convinced yourself that you can’t lose weight due to some mysterious reason, as if you’re “damaged goods” in that respect.
I know what you may be thinking, some people are genetically inclined to be fatter than others. It’s true. Some people are naturally fatter than others. You may be one of those people. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t lose weight. All it means is that you need to work harder at it.
I’ve seen thin people with fat parents and fat people with thin parents. Genetics isn’t everything. What you do in your life has the most effect on whether you lose weight or gain it. So, don’t say that you can’t lose weight. It’s not true.
Lie #2 – I can always start tomorrow
It’s true. You can start tomorrow or next week or next year. But is this really what you intend to do or are you simply procrastinating? Will you ever really take action to change your life and lose weight? If so, why not start today? Even if you have little spare time, taking little action is better than no action at all.
The whole “I’ll do it tomorrow” spiel is just a lie that people tell themselves to feel good about being lazy. There’s no reason to wait. Start right now.
Lie #3 – Things will change on their own
This is one of those lies that people may not even say out loud. However, it’s just as bad as those you put into words. The idea that somehow you will lose weight without changing your lifestyle and habits is ludicrous.
Your current weight is the result of your actions or lack of them. You have to change what you do in order to get a different outcome. Otherwise, you’re perpetuating your current situation. In fact, you may even be making it worse because changing nothing will just make you fatter and fatter still.
Lie #4 – That “thing” you ordered On Some Shopping Channel Will do the Trick
Some people always look for the “magic bullet” solution to weight loss. There is no such thing. If you’re hoping that “ab destructor” (fake name) will melt away your belly fat and give you flat abs, you may be headed for a rather long wait. Stop looking for accessories, gadgets, or gimmicks. Start with the core elements of fat loss: a proper diet routine and regular exericse.
Waiting for the next best thing to come along is just… waiting. Nothing more.
Lie #5 – It is Not My Fault
You know what? I feel for you. We’re surrounded by bad food, long work hours, a stressful environment, pollution, etc. We have every reason to be fat and yes, some of those things are not your fault. But you know what? It is still your responsibility to fix things. You need to take action because no one is going to do it for you. So, you can either blame everyone and everything or decide that you are going to do whatever it takes to improve your body and your health. Once you come to that decision and make this commitment to yourself, you begin to take action.
In Conclusion
We all tell ourself lies that keep us back. It’s up to you to take a good look at yourself and make a vow to be honest with yourself, take responsibility for your life and actions and to start to change your life for the better right now. Here are some tips on how to do that: how to make a real change. Take action. You don’t need to be perfect but you do need to progress.

Thanks, these are so true! We all lie to ourselves in one way or another! Unfortunately I’m one of those people who pick up weight very quickly if I’m not vigilant…..fortunately, I don’t feel very well if I don’t eat clean, so it does become a sort of “self-check” system after a while!
Hi Natalie,
Thanks for your comment. Eating clean is an excellent way to keep the weight off and yourself in good health.
