This interview is about female fitness. It is with Flavia Del Monte who is an up and coming fitness expert. I hope all you ladies enjoy this interview.
I think it tells a lot about what a woman needs to do in order to get really lean while still maintaining a feminine figure.
Question: My guest today is Flavia DelMonte, author of the Flavilicious Fitness program for women. How are you doing these days, Flavia?
Flavia Del Monte: Really great, thanks! Life is getting better and better for me , couldn’t be more excited about the birth of Flavilicious Fitness.
Question: What can you tell our readers about yourself and your qualifications and experience in the health and fitness field?
Flavia Del Monte: I come from from a huge family….love fitness and have a passion for helping kids in need. I am a pediatric registered nurse and have been lifting weights since 2004. I was always involved in fitness one way or another. I played a lot of sports growing up, was a wickedly fast runner and enjoyed long distance running for most of my teenage years.
After beginning a full time career, sports and fitness became less of a priority, which lead to the beginning of my skinny-fat stage. I hired a personal trainer in 2004 and have been on the hunt for the most effect training and nutrition strategies ever since.
I married a top fitness author, Vince Del Monte, whom I have learned an incredible amount of weight training information from, studied under the world’s top fitness nutritionist, Dr. John Berardi, and hold a nationally recognized personal training certificate.
I have also been fortunate enough to train with Florida’s top trainer who specializes in female transformations. Ryan Watson has really emphasized the importance of the need for females to train differently than males.
Question: What can you tell us about the rigorous training period you did for the release of your new program. What can you tell us about the process you went through and the results you got so women may know what to expect from your program?
Flavia Del Monte: Unlike the program, I added high intensity morning cardio into my training days. I did this to lean down at an accelerated rate. I was fortunate enough to be working off my computer for the three months during the creation of Full-Body-Licious….I know most people cannot train twice a day.
My transformation began in January when I began to write my product, at the same time as I was training with Ryan. We tested my product, made changes and within eight weeks, I decreased my body-fat from 18% to 13.4%.
I then put together a mini-version of Full-Body-Licious and recruited a test group of ninety-five women, aging from twenty one to fifty seven years of age. The results were phenomenal. Ladies lost anywhere from five to eighteen pounds in just SIX weeks!
These ladies followed my training and nutrition advice, exercising anywhere from four to six times per week, just once a day.
I expect even better results from Full-Body-Licious; the complete edition.
Question: Let’s talk about your new program. What made you create Flavilicious Fitness, and how did you come up with the catchy name?
Flavia Del Monte: Flavilicious Fitness was named after telling a story about males asking me how many flavors Flavia came in. Some one called out, “Flavorlicious” and I responded, “Flavilicious”….and right then I knew I had named my future fitness business.
Flavilicious Fitness was created in response to women begging me to create a female version of Vince, my husband. Vince and I created a wedding workout product to get our friends and family smoking-hot for our wedding…..at their request and released it to the pubic, donating half our revenue to charity.
Overnight I has emails flooding my facebook asking me how I train, what I eat, and when I am going to make my own female fitness product.
Of course I was amazed and after spending some time pondering the thought, I became more and more enthusiastic as I saw my own body improve month to month. I realized I had information to share with women, women who struggle, just like I did, to find the correct and healthiest ways to look our best.
I wanted to make sure I had a solid foundation of health, nutrition and training before I allowed people to put their trust in me.
Question: What sort of workout schedule does the program prescribe? How many workouts each week, length of each of the workouts, etc.?
Flavia: I use a 3 day on, 2 day off, 2 day on, 1 day off schedule. What that looks like is: on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday…off Thursday…..on Friday and Saturday….off on Sunday.
Each workout is approximately sixty minutes, depending on your conditioning. I would recommend doing the 5 DVD workouts for twelve weeks and of course, you can continue after twelve weeks.
Question: Is this a gym program or can Flavilicious Fitness be done at home?
Flavia: In the videos I am at the gym and use various equipment such as cables, bosu balls, dumbbells, barbells, medicine ball….you name it! I also included a variation of each so you can do every single exercise at home. You will however need a stability ball and free weights. I recommend three to twenty pound dumbbells and a medicine would also be beneficial.
Question: Who is this program for and who isn’t it right for?
Flavia Del Monte: This program was designed by a female, for females and as discussed earlier, women from twenty one to fifty seven saw amazing results. Some of these ladies were beginners and some had years of training experience.
Question: A lot of women focus on cardio in their workouts, yet Flavilicious Fitness contains a lot of strength training. Why is this a better way for women to train?
Flavia: Women naturally adapt to exercise quicker than a male. As Paul Check would explain, this is because a women’s body is designed to carry a fetus for nine months. Doing cardio will only change a females physique in the beginning because it is a new exercise, but shortly after their body will adapt and no further weight loss will occur.
Stimulating the body is vital for changing a women’s physique and is done so through strength training in all different and unique ways taught in Full-Body-Licious. And let’s not forget that muscle burns more calories than fat. If we train to keep the muscle we have and even stimulate a little growth, our body will in turn crank up the rate at which it burns calories, leading to FAT LOSS!
Question: Isn’t there a risk that women who lift weights will end up with bulky muscles?
Flavia: NO! Unless you are intentionally trying to bulk, you will NEVER get bulky. Women do not have close to the amount of testosterone as a male. Also, women are made up of 23% muscle, compared to a man’s 40%. It is near impossible to bulk if you are a female, unless you intend to do so. Most men have difficulties gaining muscle, so don’t worry ladies, you will keep the feminine physique God intended you to have.
Question: One of the big frustrations that women have is that they often get conflicting information about how to workout. What would you say are the 1 or 2 biggest myths that a lot of women fall prey to?
Flavia: That lifting heavy weights will make females look like a man…which we just discussed, and let me add; muscle does one of two things….grows and/or becomes stronger OR shrinks and/or becomes weaker.
Number two biggest myth is that doing cardio is the best and quickest way to lose weight. Here is my fast answer to this: The more intense the workout, and the more muscles utilized, the more oxygen is consumed as muscles use energy when they contract. The more oxygen is consumed, the more energy is expended, the more calories you burn all day long!
Question: What are some quick changes that women can make in their life to start losing body fat fast?
Flavia: I will give you one….start measuring. How can you know what is working and what isn’t working if you are not measuring what you do and what you eat. It is like trying to save without looking at your back statements. Many women try to implement so much information they are hearing that is the “latest and greatest”, they try to change so many things at once and can’t track what works and what doesn’t work.
Start measuring ONE thing today, be it length of cardio, carbohydrates, protein… You can’t set a goal unless the goal can be measurable. Paul Drucker states, “What gets measured gets managed”.
Question: Regarding nutrition, what would you say is the #1 tip that women should follow?
Flavia: Eat frequent meals. Five is great, six is better. You will keep your metabolism boosting, prevent the body from thinking it is starving itself and switching into fat storage mode, and give you the nutrients your body needs to rebuild and repair.
Question: What are your hopes regarding Flavilicious Fitness? How many women would you like to help in order to say to yourself, “It was worth it?”’
Flavia: Wow, great question! I haven’t thought of this before now….the first number that came to mind is 1….really, and seriously.
