Let’s be frank: exercise can be a drag. Often you would rather do something else than head on to the gym. You may feel like watching TV, reading a book, seeing a friend, or just go out to have a drink. It’s all perfectly natural.
To make sure you do get your required amount of workouts, you need to make exercise fun, something that you look forward to do. This doesn’t guarantee that every workout will be a thing that you’ll cherish for the rest of your life but it will certainly help you stick to your workout plan and get the results that you’re aiming for.
In this article, I want to talk about some strategies to make exercise a lot more fun than the dreary, regular gym workouts. Use one of these tips or use all of them. Just make sure that you’re start enjoying the workouts you do.
Don’t go at it Alone
One of the best ways to make exercise more enjoyable is to do it with company. This is great for motivation and it defeats the boredom that many people feel when they’re working out. You can exercise with company in a number of ways:
- Workout with a friend. Just have someone who can accompany you to the gym and train together. Make sure it’s someone who’s serious about exercising as this is still your main goal.
- Take up a class such as spinning, kickboxing, or an aerobic step class. You can actually meet new people while you’re toning your body.
- Play a team sport such as basketball or soccer. This is a group sport so you have to interact with the other people who are playing with you.
Train outdoors
I have nothing against training at the gym. However, there’s something about working out outdoors that makes me feel freer and more alive. If you ever feel like you can’t stand to look at the row of treadmills and weight machines at your gym, take yourself outdoors and do some bodyweight cardio, a little hiking, or even do some push-ups and squats in your local park.
Be able to workout at Home
Just because you don’t feel like the recent episode of your favorite sitcom by going to the gym tonight, doesn’t mean that you can’t do some strength exercises. There are plenty of things that you can do at home even while watching TV. Check out some of these exercises without weights or this complete home workout for fast fat loss and you will see that there’s no need to step outside of your door to get an awesome workout.
Find something you love to do
You can read or hear experts touting the benefits of a certain workout but if you hate doing it there’s simply no way that you’ll stick to it long enough for it to have any lasting effects on you. It’s much better to do a workout you love than to try and force yourself to do something you don’t. Therefore, if you love swimming do that, if you like playing tennis, stick with that. Whatever your favorite workout is, as long as you’re really working out when you do it, stick to it and do it often.
Try new things
Doing the same thing over and over again may get boring. Even doing something you like can get old before long. To make your workouts fun and exciting, you need to be open to new things. If someone suggest that you go with them to a kickboxing lesson, try that. If you get invited to a basketball game, go ahead and play. You may find that you’ve discovered a new workout that you love.
In Conclusion
Being able to do workouts that you love is crucial for your long term fat loss results. Take action to not let your workouts slide into a boring and dull routine. This way you will stick to them for longer.
