How to Stop Eating Fast Food

hamburger One of the biggest challenges for people who are trying to lose weight is to maintain a proper nutrition all the time. This is not so easy to do in this modern world with all the unhealthy and fattening food choices we have.

One of the biggest problems is fast food and junk food. This is not only tasty but it is also quick, convenient, and tends to fit in the hectic modern lifestyle. However, these foods are usually fattening and can be quite unhealthy, so the question is how to stop eating all this fast food and junk food and give yourself a real fighting chance to lose weight and keep it off.

I am not saying you can never have this kind of food. In fact, many great diet plans such as the Xtreme Fat Loss Diet Plan, the Cheat Your Way Thin program and the EODD Diet do allow you to eat fast food every once in a while and people still lose weight with them. The main thing is to have control over when you eat this food and how often you do it. This is the key.

Here are some tips you can and should be using…

1. Don’t go out hungry

You need to have as much resistance as you can to the temptations posed by fast food restaurants everywhere. If you’re hungry when you pass by such a place you’re much more likely to go in for a meal. A lot of people simply don’t eat well enough at home so when they go out they often pick a cheap and easy choice: fast food and junk food restaurants.

Make sure you eat something before you go out whether it is to your place of employment, shopping, meeting with friends, whatever. Give your body the food that it really needs at home to avoid being weak and susceptible to temptation outside.

2. Choose Your Eating Partners Carefully

french fries The people with whom we eat often dictate where we will eat as well. While it may not be as much fun to eat with someone who always goes to the nearest salad bar, at least you know you won’t be stuffing yourself silly with hamburgers and fries. If you go to eat with someone who likes junk food, you’re going to have a hard time avoiding eating the same food. Either it will end up in an argument or you’re just give in to make your friend feel happy.

You can still hang out with your friends but don’t go out to eat with them, do other activities with them, something that won’t automatically take you to the nearest burger joint.

3. Control Your Emotions

Often, junk food serves as a source of comfort when you’re feeling down, lonely, stressed out or sad. This is an emotional reaction to something bad that is happening in your life and you need to be aware of that. This is called emotional eating and it’s something millions of people suffer from. You have to be able to tell when you’re really hungry and when you’re just driven by emotions. One excellent program to overcome emotional eating forever is the Emotional Eating Solution program. 4. Have something small to eat handy

pizza Every once in a while you’ll find yourself out and suddenly hungry. If you’re also pressed for time you may find it hard to resist the pull of the nearest fast food restaurant as it will offer the quickest and easiest solution to your hunger.

One way to prepare for this scenario in advance is to have a snack handy. It doesn’t have to be big but it does have to be healthy. Eating a candy bar to stop you from eating a cheeseburger does not really make a difference. You need to have a granola bar or a piece of fruit to be able to kill those hunger pangs before they take over your better judgment and push you eat fast food.

5. Set a goal and make it public

One way to “force” yourself to stop eating fast food is to turn this into a goal and make yourself accountable to other people. You don’t need to tell the entire world that you’re trying to shed some pounds and eat less calories but by making yourself accountable to even one close friend or family member, you’re making it twice as hard on yourself to fail. You just won’t want to let this person down.

In addition, you need to make this a firm goal and write it down. You can hang it in your bedroom to serve as a reminder to what you’re trying to achieve. This kind of goal making can turn this desire into a strong mental fortress which you just won’t be able to breach. Try it out and you’ll see.

Final Note

When you do eat fast food, make wise choices. You don’t need to supersize anything, there are plenty of calories in the regular dishes. Speaking of calories, there are now places that have to show the amount of calories in each dish. Study them and choose those with a sensible amount of calories. In every fast food restaurant, there are better choices you can make but it’s often difficult to know which dish is better for you. The book Eat This Not That, compares various dishes in many popular restaurants and shows you what you need to eat. Use this book as your guide to fast food.
