When two women decided that they wanted to lose excess weight (equivalent to the weight of one person between them), they knew that they needed certain rules. So, they read, tried and tested and in one year, they had lost all their excess weight. This book is their story: how Neris Thomas and India Knight lost weight to become slim and trim.
In this book, the Idiot Proof Diet, they have included all their weight loss strategies, tips and tricks. Now, the question is, does it work and can it work for you as they say it did for them?
Note: One other plan that is often referred to as the Idiot Proof Diet is the wildly popular Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet.
Neris and India’s Idiot Proof Diet: An Overview
The diet plan comes in a very pink book, saying more loudly than ever that this book written by women primarily for women. That said, the advice within the pages is very sensible for anyone. It is a book written by real people for real people – people with jobs, kids, a pet or two; in short, those people who just want to get on with their lives!
The first part of the book focuses on why the authors put on weight in the first place. There is value in this as they talk about uncovering factors that lead to overeating. This is followed by some great tips and morale boosting exercises.
Basically advocating a low-carbohydrate, high protein way of life, the Idiot Proof Diet is an eleven week program. The first two weeks is a fairly strict diet program where followers are asked to eat only specific foodstuffs. A few substitutions provided. This phase could prove a mite expensive because you need to buy vitamins and supplements to sustain yourself.
In the second stage too, you will still be following the high protein, low carb foods. But, more foodstuffs are included. So, there are vegetables, fruits, berries, yoghurt, chocolate, nuts, seeds and alcohol. But high carb foods are taboo.
The diet plan also focuses on the benefits of exercise. The argument is simple: if you want to lose weight, you’ve got to start moving! But, the focus is minimal – only 10 minutes of exercise everyday. So the lion’s share of your weight loss comes from cutting out foods. Not a healthy option in the long run.
Throughout the entire book, there are lots of helpful tips and suggestions. The authors have provided information on what to wear when you are losing weight, how to shop, what you are likely to feel when you deprive yourself of food, how to manage events like parties and so on. You will even find pictures of Neris and India at various stages of their weight loss.
The Idiot Proof Diet: A Review
The Idiot Proof diet plan is a lot like the Atkins diet. The food restrictions are also somewhat similar. So, there is basically nothing new in here as such.
However, the book is a refreshing new way of looking at weight loss. It can motivate women to take their weight loss goals seriously.
Pros:
- Speaks about the emotional aspects of overeating
- Written by real women with busy lifestyles
- Breaks down the program into doable bits
- Maintenance plan helps keep lost weight off the body
- Useful for those who want to lose a lot of weight
- Good for meat lovers
- Lots of pictures and personal stories make interesting read
Cons:
- Restrictive
- Low carb may be difficult for some to follow
- Supplements make this a costly diet plan
- Insufficient focus on exercise
- Permits a number of unhealthy foods like cholesterol, bacon, cheese and eggs
In Conclusion
Useful for those who want a guide to lose substantial amounts of weight but keeping with this diet plan in the long term may be difficult. The other Idiot Proof Diet may be easier to stick to.
