Every general knows that the first rule of combat is to choose your battle ground. This is true for weight loss as well.
In many ways, when you’re trying to lose weight, your kitchen is your battle ground and you need to make it as right for you as possible.
In this article I’ll show you how to do a kitchen makeover for health and weight loss. Use the following tips and you will find it much easier to lose weight quickly.
Tip #1 - Small Plates Beat Big Plates
One of the easiest way to eat less calories is to serve less food for yourself. This has a lot to do with the size of your plates.
People tend to fill up their plate and to eat everything that’s on it. Using bigger plates than the ones used decades before, is it any wonder that we have grown so fat as a society? The first step in your kitchen makeover is to place smaller plates at a more accessible shelf or cupboard than the bigger ones. This way, you will choose them more often and will simply eat less.
Tip #2 – Switch Your Oils
The oils you use can either help your diet or ruin it. Oils are rich in calories and in fat, but not all oils are bad for you. Some oils contain healthy fats which are vital for your body’s health and can even help you lose weight. These include virgin olive oil and coconut oil. These are the oils you should use for your own cooking.
Tip #3 – Ditch your Drinks
When you do your kitchen makeover, it’s time to take a long hard look at the drinks you have in your kitchen. What you drink can have a massive effect on your weight. Some beverages can add hundreds of unwanted calories to your diet and you may not even notice it. This is the problem with beverages, you hardly notice that you’ve drunk them at all.
The main culprits include various sodas, fruity juices, and alcohol. Even if you’re a casual beer drinker who enjoys a can a night, know that you are paying the price for it with many extra calories. Consider if it’s worth it.
Tip #4 – Get Rid of Salt
Let’s do a short experiment: get rid of the salt you have in your kithcen and go without it for 10 days. At the end of those 10 days, I want you to see if you really miss the salt. Most of us eat too much salt for our own good. Our food is naturally salty enough. We’ve grown accustomed to salty food so we’re used to them. It’s time to “kick the salty habit” and start eating healthy again.
Tip #5 – Limit temptation
Each of us has his or her own comfort foods which we long for and find hard to resist. You need to face the fact that if you have too much of these foods in your kitchen that it’s more likely that you willl surrender to them and end up eating too much.
I’m not suggesting that you give up on those temptations completely as I do believe you’re allowed to indulge yourself on occasion. However, to avoid going overboard, limit the amount of tempting food you have in your kitchen. Indulge but don’t gorge.
Tip #6 – Keep your friends close and your enemies far
We often crave what is right in front of our eyes and what is easiest to reach at. So, you need to make healthy food easily accessible and keep fattening food in those shelves where it’s harder to reach to.
So, place fruit and vegetable at eye level in the fridge. Keep candy, chocolate, and empty carbs on high or low shelves and place them at the back to make them inaccessible as possible. You may find that you’re suddenly less hungry for them.
Tip #7 – Get Rid of Takeout Fliers
One of the best tips I can give you is to cook most of your food yourself and not eat pre-made food or order it in. Yet, many people keep fliers of takeout on their fridge. Whenever they feel hungry, this is the first thing they see.
Get rid of those fliers. I don’t want you to have any takeout fliers or phone numbers in your kitchen. This will save a lot of calories and quite a bit of money too.
Tip #8 – Keep It Fresh
If you have frozen or pre-made food in your home, get rid of it or cut it down to a minimum. The best food is fresh food which is often less filled with chemicals and preservatives. While frozen food is much easier to eat and it takes less time to prepare, it is fresh food which is usually healthier.
Tip #9 – Sweeten Properly
If you want to lose weight, sugar is not your friend. It’s one of your worst enemies. Not only does it add a lot of calories to your diet, but it can also make you feel hungrier after you eat. Better sweeteners that you should have in your kitchen are stevia and raw honey.
In Conclusion
Doing a kitchen makeover is a good step toward a faste fat loss and better health. Use these 9 tips above and start your makeover today.
