The Morning Banana Diet is sweeping Japan. The craze began in March of 2008 when certain Japanese celebrities began stating that they lost weight due to the Morning Banana Diet.
The craze has become so big that Japan has experienced a national shortage in Bananas.
But does the Morning Banana diet really work or is it just a fad diet?
In this review I will try to provide the best answer.
Morning Banana Diet Review
The Morning Banana diet (also known as the Japanese Diet) has very basic and simple rules:
- For breakfast you need to eat a raw banana and drink a glass of lukewarm water
- For the rest of the day you can eat whatever you like but you’re not allowed to have deserts and alcohol is discouraged
- At 3 PM you’re allowed a sweet
- You have to finish eating by 8 PM
- You have to be in bed by 12 PM
- You don’t need to exercise though you may do so if you want to
- You should keep a food journal to record what you eat
Morning Banana Diet Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Easy to follow
- Not a strict plan
- Advocates keeping a food journal
Cons:
- No scientific basis for why bananas would help you lose weight
- Bananas are actually rich in calories
- No mention of exercising
- Can get boring
- You can get fed up with bananas
- May cause constipation
- Letting you eat what you want for lunch and dinner isn’t a good recipe for weight loss
In Conclusion
I believe that this diet shouldn’t be followed.
The Banana diet isn’t based on any scientific facts and in fact has some cleverly disguised manipulation.
Here’s why I believe this diet SHOULD NOT be tried:
- Bananas are one of the more calorie dense fruits there are. They’re also rich in sugar. This makes them an unlikely candidate for a long term weight loss. They do contain a lot of starch and so can help you feel full for a long time, but a lot of different foods could easily have been chosen
- Allowing you to eat what you want for 2 meals each day out of 3 isn’t a good idea. Going to a fast food joint can ruin any diet, especially one in which there isn’t any exercise involved
- Not allowing you to eat after 8 PM is the real TRICK behind this fad diet. Most people eat a lot more when they come back home from work, because they have all their favorites in their kitchen. By telling you not to eat after 8 PM, the creators of the Banana diet are actually limiting your calorie intake artificially. It has nothing to do with Banana eating. It’s just manipulation
- This weight loss plan does nothing to deal with people’s emotional dependency on food and their tendency to overeat. As someone who has written a book on how to Overcome Emotional Eating, I suspect that this diet may only increase cravings in the long run. It certainly does very little to teach healthy eating habits
For all these reasons I recommend that you NOT USE the Morning Banana Diet.
What to Do Next?
You may be feeling disappointed that the Banana Diet isn’t what it seemed to be. I’m sorry for you. However, the best thing is to choose a reliable program in which to lose weight in the long term. Here are the links to the 2 programs I recommend:
Choose one of them and you will have a much bigger chance to lose weight and keep it off than with any fad diet.
