Ever wanted to cook your fave dishes minus the harmful calories? If that has been your dream, America’s TV chef Rocco DiSprito has outlined the secrets of laying out a gourmet meal that cuts calories drastically but still maintains the same texture, flavor and richness. In short, calories are compromised heavily, taste is not.
If you are losing your battle with the bulge, you already know all about comfort foods. These are foods that are rich in calories because they make use of sugar or salt loaded ingredients. But, when Rocco DiSprito underwent his personal journey to weight loss, he discovered the need to find leaner alternatives for these comfort foods. This book, Now Eat This!: 150 of America’s Favorite Comfort Foods, All Under 350 Calories, is the result of that.
As the title suggests, the book contains 150 low cal alternatives for some of the most popular ‘downfall dishes’, as the author calls them. Some examples include Mac & Cheese, Spaghetti, Nachos, Brownies, Chicken Alfredo, Filet Mignon with Roasted Cauliflower, clam chowder and other mouthwatering delicacies.
What’s remarkable about the book is the fact that each one of the popular high cal recipes in it are brought to 350 calories or less in DiSprito’s book, without compromising on the taste or flavor. Each of the recipes in the book is made delectable in spite of using no bad fats, no unhealthy carbs and no sugar!
Every recipe contains nutritional breakdowns from a certified nutritionist. Over and above this, Chef Rocco also gives helpful time-saving shortcuts to cooking foods and gives you ample glimpses into his own weight loss methodology.
As this is not a diet book, one need not expect any information on exercises. However, the book does endorse the importance of exercise by describing how Rocco made use of a personal trainer and worked double cardio workout sessions daily to lose weight and burn fat, following which he also competed in a triathlon and an Iron man!
Now Eat This: A Review
First off, this is NOT a weight loss book. It is a cookbook, albeit a low cal one. Rocco was a judge on The Biggest Loser and is an advocate of healthy, mindful eating. In keeping with that spirit, this book deals with the ‘eating’ part of weight loss. So, it contains recipes to many of the foods that so many Americans crave.
Once you experiment with these recipes, you’ll find that they taste remarkable. This, given the fact that most low-cal recipes taste bland and dry as dust.
This is a family friendly cookbook that empowers every person to cook their favorite delicacies without giving in to the danger of excessive calorie intake. A great way to eat less calories.
Pros:

- Recipes by world renowned chef
- Precise nutritional information is provided
