I’m having a blast watching the Olympic Games these days. With so many different sports to choose from it’s hard to decide what to watch. I mostly enjoy judo, volleyball, and gymnastics.
But I’m not writing this post to talk about my sport favorites, but to show you how you can use the Olympic Games to boost your fitness efforts. These games offer a number of ways which you can use to boost your fitness motivation and get fitter and leaner in a hurry.
Be Inspired
The Olympic Games are full of emotion and rich in personal stories. To see athletes who have worked in relative obscurity for many years, giving up much of the pleasures of life, only to realize their dream of attending and winning a medal at the Olympic games is heart warming. It can bring tears to your eyes to see the absolute joy of a winner.
What it can also do is give you the inspiration you need to accomplish your own fitness goals, modest though may pale in comparison. When you see what drive, commitment and discipline can bring, you will feel empowered and know that success is withing your grasp. This may be just what you need to start training harder and better once more.
Find a New Hero
We all need heroes and sport heroes are especially good for anyone who wants to have more motivation to train. Take for instance, Kaori Matsumoto, the Judo fighter in the picture above and gold medal winner. She began her training when she was 6 years old and spent countless hours practicing. It is said she once did 600 pushups! How’s that for power?
Why do you need heroes? Because each of us needs someone to look up to. Not just one person, but a person for each different field. Having an athlete to look up to can be a big source of motivation. It can give you the drive you need to succeed big time. In the Olympic Games there are plenty of heroes to choose from. Find your own.
Get in the Mood to Train
Watching the Games can put you in the mood to train. Even I, who train regularly, feel a bigger itch to lift, jump, run, etc. I just want to exercise better, harder and longer.
If you’re used to train in front of the TV, put on the Games and I can practically guarantee and you will feel more energized to train hard.
Find a New Sport
Bored with your workouts and looking for new, more fun ways to burn off calories and fat? It’s time to find a sport you enjoy doing or want to pursue as a hobby. There’s no better place to do so than the Olympic Games.
The sheer number of different fields means that you will surely be able to find at least one sport that appeals to you. This can be exactly what you need to get in shape.
Celebrate The Human Body
Fitness is all about being connected to your body. It’s about celebrating your physical capabilities. Nothing exemplifies those abilities like the Olympic Games. You can see the human body in all its glory and this will help you connect to your own physical side and want to make it better and stronger.
The bottom line is that the Olympic Games are a pure joy of fitness and watching them can help you get the urge to become fitter too. So, pick a sport and watch it. Then, do a workout and see how hard you train.
