We all want to be healthy. The way to do it often seems hard and complicated, especially in an information drenched society as we live in today. Let’s try to keep things simple, shall we? Let’s look at some simple rules of healthy living that you can apply in your life today. These rules are easy to follow and their effect can be quite far reaching and lasting.
Put Good Stuff In Your Body
There are many people who treat their car better than their own body. They pay premium to put the best fuel in their car, but when it comes to their body they make do with junk. What you put in your body determines how good it will run, how healthy it will be. You can’t eat junk and expect your body not to rebel against it. It will rebel and obesity and disease are just two of the ways in which this may happen. So, stop eating junk food and start eating only healthy, nutritious meals.
Hang Around Healthy Minded People
We are all influenced by our social circle. If you hang around with shopaholics, you will end up buying more stuff too. If your friends love to eat fast food then you will be a frequent visitor to KFC and Burger King. If you choose to spend time with healthy minded people, you will become healthy minded as well. You will do more healthy things. You will eat better and you will be conscious of your choices.
Move Your Body
Your body craves movement. Your muscles depend on it, your metabolism thrives on it, your health will vastly improve with it. Movement is crucial to a healthy body and a happy mindset. On days in which I move a lot I find that I am happier, more focused and sleep better. Even food tastes better on movement rich days. It’s as if you’ve earned every bite.
Improve One Aspect Of Your Life
Life is built on progression. You can’t stand still. You can’t be happy with “maintaining”. You need to have a purpose in life, a goal to work toward. You need to move forward. Choose one thing in your life that you would like to improve and work on it. Do this every day. Make small and continuous improvements. If you do this you will have a better and fuller life. A life in which you are always moving toward something and enjoying yourself more.
Shop Less Experience More
What gives you more happiness, buying a new product or having a new experience? We live in a consumerist society and we are encouraged to buy buy buy. Is this really making us happy? Do we really need all the stuff we buy? It seems like the excitement of shopping wears off quickly. Novelty has a very short lifespan and the excitement it brings is quick to die.
A new experience stays with you for longer. It gives you more meaningful and lasting enjoyment. It spurs growth and curiosity and fills you with joy. For your mental well-being experience more and shop less.
Stop Worrying About Things You Can’t Control
There are things which you simply have no effect on. You can’t control them and you can’t change them. They will either happen or they won’t.
For instance, worrying about airplane crashes is useless. Letting the periodical news item about the meteor which may hit the Earth is pointless. It just leads to anxiety, bad sleep, and other nasty effects. You need to stop worrying about things which are out of your control.
Relish Every Little Piece of Happiness
Being happy isn’t just a state. It is something you need to work for. Being happy requires nothing more than keeping your eyes open and seeking out every morsel of happiness that you can find. During each day, you will experience many moments of happiness. You just need to be able to see them for what they are. If you do, then you will feel better and more positive.
Healthy living isn’t something that requires a lot of work. It is mostly a matter of mindset. So, decide to live healthy and you will.
