Sign The Fitness Infomercials Awareness Pledge

by Jonathan

Television with the word scam showingI have the bad luck of coming across a lot of bad fitness products. Many of these products are promoted by infomercials which you can see on TV or online. Even better products are promoted by infomercials which make use of a variety of marketing tricks and gimmicks which I detest.

The problem is that infomercials work and it is often the marketing that wins, even if the product is bad. I’ve been thinking about ways to help people see through these marketing ploys and make better decisions regarding fitness products. What I came up with, and I hope it works, is The Fitness Infomercials Awareness Pledge which is outlined below and if you have your own site or blog, you can help to spread the word and make your readers aware too.

The Pledge has 8 Will’s and Won’ts points in it. I recommend printing it out and actually signing it. The act of signing your name to a piece of paper (even if you don’t show it to anyone) strengthens your commitment. If you could also share this post with others, I’d be grateful… and I’m sure they would be too.

I Will Not

1. Fall for limited time offers – I realize that the point of these offers is to create a sense of urgency and make me buy out of impulse. I realize that, in many cases, these limited time offers tend to have a very broad “limit” and may in fact last for a pretty long time.

2. Believe in fitness magic – I realize that there is no way to lose considerable body fat without effort. I realize that there is no gadget or product that can melt away fat without me having to work for it.

3. Accept claims at face value – I realize that much that is said in infomercials is inaccurate and stated in a misleading manner. I realize that I need to skeptical and never accept things as they are stated.

4. Be fooled by the models in the infomercial – I realize that these models were already fit to begin with and didn’t get their body by using the product they promote. I know it takes a lot of hard work to look as good as they do.

I Will

1. Read the return policy carefully – I realize that a lot of products are sold with a money back guarantee but that there are often strings attached. I will check to see who pays for the shipping and handling and the actual steps needed to take to receive a refund.

2. Read the terms and conditions carefully – I realize that that no matter how small the text is, it contains information that I need to know prior to buying. I realize that I may find hidden charges or other terms which I may not approve of, but that it is my duty to check for them myself.

3. Read user reviews prior to making a purchase – I will use the power of the Internet to read user reviews and learn from the experience of others. I will also share my experience with products that I’ve tried for the benefit of other people.

4. Do comparison shopping – I realize that there are plenty of products that are similar to each other yet have different price tags. I will compare between products and stores to find the best price I can.

===

I believe that if you commit to these points that you’ll be able to avoid buying useless fitness products and stick to the good ones. You will likely lose weight faster this way because you won’t waste your time and energy on things that don’t work.
