A vacation is the time for you to unwind and enjoy yourself, but some people take it too far and end up with some negative consequences. It’s not uncommon for people to come back from a vacation 10 pounds heavier than they were when started it.
This never happened to me. I usually lose a few pounds on my vacations. It’s because I include some fitness in them. I want to share with you some of my best vacation fitness tips to help you come back from your next vacation calmer and fitter too.
Use The Gym
Many hotels have a gym and while it may not be as fancy or well-stocked as they gym you usually attend, it will certainly do. Some people actually won’t go to a hotel that doesn’t have a gym. I’m not as strict as that, but if your hotel has a gym, use it.
Learn To Train In Your Hotel Room
If you didn’t bring any exercise clothes or gear or your hotel doesn’t have a gym, you can still train. You have your body, so you can do bodyweight exercises and you have your hotel room where you can train in privacy.
You can make use of the bed, chairs, and the space your room offers to do plenty of exercises. Check out this hotel workout for some great ideas or check out the Euro Vacation 4 Week Workout Plan for some detailed workout routines.
Do a Morning Workout Before The Big Breakfast
A vacation day usually begins with a big breakfast, especially if you’re staying in a hotel that serves a buffet meal. I recommend that you do a short and intense morning workout just before breakfast to get a spike in your metabolism and better prepare your body to eat all those carbs. The morning is an excellent time to exercise as you haven’t gone sightseeing yet and you’re in total control of your time. It also sets the tone for the day, making it less likely that you’ll eat a lot of junk (you won’t want to ruin things). So, do a morning workout.
Don’t Just Lounge by the Pool or On the Beach
I’m all for resting while on vacation, but if all you do is lounge by the pool or on the beach and hardly move, you will probably gain a bit of weight. You can relax without being idle. Going to a museum to look at art, traveling through historical sites, walking about a foreign city to experience a different culture, all this takes you away from your normal routine and keeps you active.
The main thing about a vacation is to mentally detach from your regular routine. You don’t need to lie in near complete rest for this to happen.
At Least Do Some Swimming
If you do go on a pool/beach R&R vacation the least you can do is actually go swimming. Go in the water and do some laps. Trust me, it will make you feel good and won’t harm your sense of relaxation.
Take a Bike Tour
One great way to see the sights of a city quickly is to go on a bike tour. Plenty of European cities like Amsterdam and Berlin offer such tours and they’re an excellent way to make some memories and burn off calories.
Do Some Action Packed Activities
There are plenty of action-packed, fun activities that you can do while on a vacation. Scuba-diving in the ocean or rowing through the canals of a European city, doing some hiking in the country. All these are excellent ways to burn calories. Each location offers different activities. You need to want to do them and you will find plenty of options.
If you want to have a fit vacation, you can certainly do it. It will help you to keep the vacation pounds off and you may even find yourself thinner than you were before you started it.
