Weight Loss Is a Matter of Faith

by Jonathan

man standing at sun setWhen people talk about weight loss they usually talk about the physical aspects of it. Even when they do talk about the mental side of weight loss, they usually stick to motivation. They try to find a way in which people can be driven to start a weight loss plan and stick to it.

Today I want to offer what I believe is the basis of this ability to see a weight loss process through: Faith.

Faith is the underlying force which gives you the strength to succeed in changing your body and improving your life. It is the driving force you need to make any change in any area. Let’s see how faith plays a role in achieving weight loss.

Before The First Step

Even before you begin trying to lose weight you need to have faith that you’ll be able to succeed. Otherwise, you won’t be able to really get going. No one tries something without even the smallest belief in his or her ability to achieve their goals. You need to have this firmly in mind. You don’t need to be certain of your success but you do need to have faith that it is in your ability to achieve it.

So, before you even begin to consider how you will go about losing weight, what kind of workouts you will do or how you will change your diet, you have to know that you can do this, that this is within your power. You must have faith.

When You Choose a Plan

Wanting to lose weight is not enough. It’s a good start but you still need to know how to do it properly. This is a time for a decision. You need to choose one path over the other, one diet plan above all else, one way to train. You need to put your faith in someone, in some system.

This requires you to abandon or at least reduce your skepticism, that gnawing thought that is wondering whether what you’re offered here is not really effective, merely a tool to make you purchase a product that you don’t really need. This skepticism is healthy because it can indeed help you avoid using useless or shady products but too much of it will lead to paralysis. In the end you will have to trust someone and something.

When The Going Get’s Tough

… The tough get going. At least this is how the saying goes. I believe it’s not the tough that get going or keep going, it’s those with faith. Hurdles which appear in our way are not there to fail us, but to test us. They are like nature’s evolutionary process, a way to reward those strongest of heart, mind, and body.

Unless you have faith, you’re liable to fall apart and retreat whenever you face a difficulty. And these difficulties will come. They can’t be avoided. I never knew someone who lost weight without a struggle, without having to dig deep within themselves for strength and the desire to forge ahead. As weight loss depends on making lifestyle changes and breaking old habits, it is like swimming against the tide. It is much easier to keep going as you are now, regardless of the consequences to your body and health.

So, without faith, you will likely stop at any obstacle that comes in your way, and there will likely be some.

How To Find Faith

There are a number of things that you can do to find faith within you:

1. Remember past successes – This will not be the first time you’ve achieved something, whether it was in school, at work, or in your personal life. If you achieved that thing in your past, there’s no reason why you can’t lose weight.

2. You’re not so different – As other people find ways to lose weight and keep it off so can you. There’s nothing about you that’s different or weaker than many other people.

3. Take a blind leap – Not doing anything is also failing in a way. It’s failing to make a change. Often you just need to take a leap of faith, to try something out and hope for the best. You can do this too.

Finally, remember that faith is not something you’re born with. It’s something you develop. It is entirely within your power to change yourself and your life and to become someone who has faith in themselves. I’m sure you can do this.
