Why Leg Exercises Are Key To Fat Loss

by Jonathan

woman doing a lungeIn this post I want to talk about a disturbing habit I see among men and women who train at the gym: the tendency to avoid or do too little leg exercises.

I’ve observed this phenomenon for a number of years now and it has taken me a while to figure why this is happening: Women are more obsessed with their thighs and buttocks then guys are so they do work the lower body but they usually do so with short-range, limited exercises. Guys are mostly concerned with building the best looking upper body they can, because they believe that this is what women want.

The truth is that if your goal is to burn body fat, not doing leg strength compound exercises such as squats, lunges, and bridges, is a big mistake and one that is going to keep you back from achieving your goals.

Let me tell you why training your legs needs to become a bigger part of your workout NOW and how it can help you to lose body fat faster than ever before.

More Muscles = Higher Metabolism

If you want to turn your body into a fat burning furnace capable of burning more calories faster, you need to get a high metabolism. The best way to do that is by building more lean muscle tissue. Muscle tissue naturally requires more energy to fuel it so the more of it you have, the faster your body burns calories, even at rest time.

This is why strength exercises are so important for anyone who wants to lose fat. This is true for both men and women (and no, women will not get bulky by weight lifting).

Why Leg Exercises = More Muscles

Once you accept that you need more muscle tissue to burn more calories faster, the next step is to realize why doing leg strength exercises must be a part of this process. The legs (and I include the buttocks) include the largest muscle groups in your body. If you want to build more muscle tissue to boost your metabolism, you need to work on the bigger muscle groups first and foremost. If you neglect your legs, you’re missing out on your biggest opportunity to build more muscles, and shooting yourself in the foot (pardon the pun) when trying to burn fat.

To learn how to do leg exercises check out some of these posts:

  1. How to do squat variations.
  2. Effective calf exercises.
  3. How to do lunges.
  4. Exercises to tone your buttocks.

In Conclusion

Now is the time to rethink your workouts and start adding more intense leg exercises to them. Try to do them at the beginning of your workouts. If your workouts do not include squats and lunges and other legs exercises, they are not as effective as you would like them to be. Add these exercises and you will see faster results. I guarantee it.
