The thing that determines how fast or how slow you burn calories is your metabolism. This is the the engine that your body has that takes calories and uses them as energy.
If you want to lose weight fast and easily, you need to get a fast metabolism. When you have a high metabolism, the pounds melt away. It’s as simple as that. The problem is that only a few lucky individuals are born with a high metabolism from day one. The rest of us need to take some action to make sure that we also enjoy the benefits of a roaring metabolic rate.
In this article, I want to share some easy to follow and simple tips to increase your metabolism. If you want to turn your body into a fat burning furnace and shed fat quickly, read this article all the way through…
Weight Training Is Key
One of the best tips I can give you to boost your metabolism is to go to the gym and start lifting weights. The reason is that the amount of muscle tissue you have on your body is directly connected to your metabolic rate. Muscle tissue naturally uses up a lot more calories than other tissues. This happens even when you’re resting, in between workouts. Muscles just need more energy to sustain themselves.
As weight training is the way to build muscle tissue, you simply have to include these in your workouts. This goes for you ladies as well. You don’t need to bulk up for this to be effective. Even a small increase in muscle mass will generate a big increase in your metabolism. More muscles equals a higher metabolism. It’s simple math, really. You just need to apply it.
It is true that you can also do bodyweight strength exercises, but I believe that weight lifting should still be an important part of your workout routine. If you want to get an even greater metabolic boost, do circuits in which you do a series of exercises one after the other with no rest. This is actually the basis of metabolic resistance training, the best way to train for metabolic purposes. If you do this right, you can burn lots of calories. One program which is built on performing circuits is the 1000 Calorie Challenge.
Note: as more muscles induce an increase in your metabolism, you should train your entire body. This is the only way to maximize the amount of muscles that you can add to your body. Do total body workouts, training your bigger muscles more than your smaller ones and you will get a higher metabolism than you could have done otherwise.
Eat metabolism boosting foods
One of the best way to get a fast metabolism is to include foods that naturally increase metabolism in your diet:
- High protein foods – Protein not only helps to build muscle mass but also helps you to stay full for a long time and has a thermogenic effect on your body so it requires a lot of energy from your body to digest it.
- Fruits and veggies such as grapefruit and cabbage that also require a lot of calories to digest.
- Some foods can provide a short metabolic boost. These include caffeine, garlic, apples, cheyenne peppers, chili, and cinnamon. Don’t expect a huge increase from these but even little things count.
A great program that shows you additional metabolism boosting foods is the 7 Day Belly Blast Diet.
Sleep and Stress
While sleep and stress may not directly affect your metabolism, your lifestyle and habits do have some impact on how your body and metabolism function. It’s important to sleep enough hours each night (7 at the very least) and to reduce your stress. You should also make sure to drink enough water each day, get enough rest (on top of sleeping), and do things that make you feel good.
Note: lack of sleep does influence your internal hormonal balance which alters your appetite and may even change the way your body utilizes calories. This is why it is vital to get enough sleep if you want to lose weight.
Use the above mentioned tips and you’ll get a fast metabolism. How fast I can’t be sure of but I’m positive it will be faster than it is today. This will help you lose weight faster with any diet plan you choose to follow.
